As an international second generation family business we’re taking responsibilty to protect and preserve the planet for future generations. Our first PV system was connected to the grid in Dortmund back in 2010 and we‘re consistently pursuing the path towards the electrification of our company.
We‘re members of the German association Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e.V. since 2023 and its project group "Ways towards a climate-neutral company". Together with the upp department at the University of Kassel we’ve developed a roadmap to complete the electrification of our company by 2027, which we’re constantly refining.
Since 2024, our KIS climate targets have also been officially validated and listed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). As an international collaboration between CDP, the World Resources Institute (WRI), the WWF and the UN Global Compact, the SBTi supports companies in setting ambitious, science-based climate targets in line with the 1.5°C target pathway of the Paris Agreement.
Alongside helping customers in different industries within machinery and plant engineering to work more efficiently and sustainably by improving their rotative equipment, we‘ve also committed to MISSION ENERGY AUTARKY 2027: A decarbonisation initiative to eleminate emissions for scopes 1 and 2 for our headquarters in Dortmund by 2027.
Offsetting is not a desirable option for us and will be reduced to a minimum as part of our decarbonisation initiative. The unavoidable ones are offset by certified partners (Gold Standard) in Scope 2. Our transformation strategy is based on a cross-sectoral exchange of knowledge, which ensures growing know-how within our business.
In November 2023, our transformation concept made it into the top 3 of the Energy Efficiency Awards organised by Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena). Nominated in the category "Moving forward! Concepts for a climate-neutral future" category, we were able to present our MISSION ENERGY AUTARCY 2027 at an award ceremony in Berlin. The measures we have taken to electrify our company headquarters successfully combine economic and ecological aspects and we‘re extremely proud that the high-calibre jury of experts from business, politics, science and the media selected our transformation concept as a finalist.
“As a small business we want to demonstrate that neither company size nor industry affiliation are decisive factors for a maximum contribution towards carbon neutrality.”
As a global family business, we stand for diversity. Every day our team members work successfully and respectfully hand in hand, regardless of gender, age, origin, sexual orientation, religious affiliation or physical disability. This diversity is one of our greatest strengths, as it ensures our innovative force, creativity and therefore our long-term success as a company.
We foster a trustful corporate culture in which every voice is heard and all team members have the opportunity to develop their full potential.
KIS received ISO14001 certification for the first time in 2016. ISO14001 is an international standard that defines the requirements for an effective environmental management system and continuously documents improvements. All processes in our company are constantly put to the test and optimised in this way.
Rooted in Dortmund-Hörde, we see it as part of our corporate responsibility to support local clubs and initiatives, including the Hörder SC football club and the Hansa Theater in Hörde as a cultural institution.
